ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture has been around for more than 3,000 years. To date, there are more than one billion people using acupuncture as a part of their health maintenance program.  Acupuncture is a safe, healthy alternative with great documented results, and it is gaining popularity here in the United States.  Used frequently throughout the world for centuries, in 1996 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved acupuncture as a medical treatment method, and in 1997 the American Health Council publicly claimed acupuncture to be successful in treating pains, nausea, and various forms of arthritis.  In a recent survey, more than half of physicians (51%) believe in the efficacy of acupuncture and 43% have referred patients for acupuncture treatment. With this growing number referrals, Innovative Medicine was founded.

Acupuncture focuses on correcting energetic imbalances and encourages an even flow of qi, (pronounced chee), the vital life force in all living things.  By bringing the energy levels into balance, the body's own healing mechanisms can be stimulated. When the body is healthy, the emotions are balanced, the spirit is vibrant, and qi flows freely thoughout the body.  Trauma, poor diet, stress, hereditary conditions, environmental factors, and emotional issues can cause a disturbance in the balance and flow of qi.

Practitioners of acupuncture use pre-sterilized, disposable fine (hair-like) needles to administer a treatment.  The insertion is virtually painless and the needles are never shared.  The needles are retained for approximately 30-45 minutes. Individuals who have experienced acupuncture claim it has a very comforting effect, as well as being a successful means of easing the symptoms, or eliminating their condition. Today, athletes like Freddy Couples, PGA golfer and Masters champion, use acupuncture to relieve the discomfort of back pain.  Acupuncture treatments help to loosen up painful muscles and relaxes them to where a full range of motion can be restored.  Pro athletes are staking their careers on acupuncture as an alternative to current medical procedures.  Both Olympian and pro athletes are employing acupuncturists to join their medical
trainers and administrators, assisting them in gaining a pain free and more competitive upper hand in their respective fields.
